The Importance of Preserving the Past

When I started being an ambassador for YesVideo I didn’t quite know what I’d be getting from the slides, VHS Tapes, and 8mm movies that I would send away. Some stuff was silly, much of it poorly shot, by me but much more of it brought back so many fun memories. On one of the 8mm movies there were a bunch of 30 second clips. On one clip there was me and my Dad around 1977 or ’78. I’m not sure I think I was either 3 or 4 from the looks of it. Dad and I are riding around on the tractor in the back yard, probably preparing it for seeding or smoothing the ground for the clubhouse that my Dad built.

The video is one very treasured memory of mine. I am glad that I was able to preserve that bit of footage through using the YesVideo service. We have quite a few more 8mm movies, old VHS tapes and many slides. I wonder what else we could discover if we converted those too.

Out in California Making Memories

Photo-A-Day #2580

I’m in California for the next two days. I’m here as a blogger ambassador for YesVideo. The company has brought me in along with some other bloggers to tour the company as well as go and play hard and make some fun memories. We are having a Big Kid Play Date. I’m here with bloggers @MommaDJane, @mommycosm, @queenscarlett and @1momof5. Continue reading Out in California Making Memories

Watching my YesVideo DVDs

A fine touch from YesVideo

Back in March I first wrote about being a YesVideo Ambassador and sending a bunch of Slides, Video Tapes and 8mm movies to be converted to DVDs. Well, I got those back at the beginning of the month but I hadn’t had much time to watch the finished products but I did sit down and watch a bunch of the DVDs right before vacation. I wanted to write about them during vacation but I ended up relaxing and making more memories over vacation than writing about memories of the past. I could barely write about the memories I was making last week, in fact I wrote five days worth of posts in one night and tried to recall major points from our vacation too. So glad I have photos from vacation, so much easier to remember. Continue reading Watching my YesVideo DVDs

My YesVideo Order is Ready to View Online

YesVideo Blogger Ambassador BadgeA couple of weeks ago I sent in a bunch of items to YesVideo to be transferred to DVD. This past Monday I got an e-mail from YesVideo that told me that my videos were now ready to view online. I didn’t even realize that the videos would be made available to me online. I was delighted.

I quickly poked through all of the videos and so many memories came back to me. I was in a couple of plays in High School. I was on the tech crew and also an actor in some small roles. I showed my wife that part of my life that she had ever seen and we enjoyed that. We haven’t watched the whole video yet but I am looking forward to doing that. I Am A YesVideo Ambassador

My media for YesVideo

Today I begin a new adventure on BenSpark.com. I am an official Blog Ambassador to YesVideo. YesVideo is a service that converts your old movies, slides and photos into digital content on DVD. I like to think of them as memory protectors. To me YesVideo celebrates my memories by making them accessible again. Do you have a working 8mm projector? I certainly do not. However, I do have some great home videos from when I was a kid, when my parents were younger and those memories could be lost forever just because we can no longer experience them and see them.

In preparation for my becoming a YesVideo Ambassador I received a gift code to use with YesVideo to convert some of my media to DVDs. I went overboard and actually spent double what I was allotted and so I paid out the remainder. I sent in two 8mm reels, four VHS tapes and 96 slides. When the media returns to me I’ll be sharing what I sent and finally be able to relive some of those memories from my past.

Review: Disney Pirates of the Caribbean Costume Collection

Almost a couple of weeks ago I was offered the opportunity to try out some pirate costumes to celebrate the release of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES Available on Blu-ray 3D & Blu-ray Hi-Def Combo Pack! I jokingly asked my contact if they had a “pregnant serving wench” costume. And you know what, they did. Actually it is a Mommy to be Pirate costume. There was a fun, all black pirate costume for me and an adorable little buccaneer costume for Eva. While these were not costumes that looked like those from the characters of the movie they were actually pretty nice.

Mine came with a bandanna, belt, boot coverings, wrist gauntlets and a decent shirt. Allison’s came with pants w/boot covers, shirt w attached vest and hat. Eva’s came with Shirt w attached vest, Hat, headband, belt and boot covers. Other than Allison’s costume being a “One size fits all” that should probably have been a “one size fits many” the costumes fit pretty well.

Review: Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides DVD/Blu-Ray Combo Pack

We gave away six copies of the Pirates movie at our Pirate Pizza Party last night.

On October 18th Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides was released on DVD, Blu-Ray and Movie Download. This is the fourth installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and stars Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow a wily and flamboyant pirate who manages to get himself into and out of tons of trouble. I’ve enjoyed the Pirates movies ever since the very first one came out. That one was by far the best in the series because it was visually stunning, had a great cast and a fun story. With the second movie things went downhill and the third was really hard to follow because of the plot holes. However, with the fourth movie I think that things have gotten back on track. The movie is loosely based on a novel called On Stranger Tides. Captain Jack Sparrow was written into the story and the usual mayhem ensues. Pirates of the Caribbean Piratical Halloween Pizza Party

Photo-A-Day #2392

Tonight we had friends over for a pirate pizza party. Why was it pirate themed, you ask? Well, for many reasons. First of all Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides came out on DVD and Blu-Ray and Movie Download on the 18th and I have a review to write on that movie. I was sent pirate costumes to review and I was sent a pirate party pack and 6 copies of the Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides DVD to throw a pirate themed party. So it being near Halloween I figured we do a bunch of these at the same time and have a Pirate Pizza Party with friends. Continue reading Pirates of the Caribbean Piratical Halloween Pizza Party

How to save on Movie Rentals

BlockBusterWe have a family friend who rents movies at the supermarket from those stand up Red Boxes for $1 a day. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal as long as you want to run back and forth to the supermarket all the time. He also has a Blu-Ray player and those boxes do not have Blu-Ray. The major problem is that his rentals end up costing him on average $8.00 per rental. That is per a $1 rental. Why is that? He’s a procrastinator.

The perfect plan for him would be Blockbuster Online. And that is because BLOCKBUSTER Online Offers More Choices, shipping is free both ways, you can keep the movies as long as you need them and there is no extra charge for Blu-Ray movie rentals. Pretty much the perfect scenario for my movie renting friend. And if you are one of those people who likes going to the store, poking around and finding movies then you can do that as well (depending upon your plan).

I’ve encouraged him to sign up for the Free Trial of BLOCKBUSTER Online today. I know that this will end up costing him so much less over time and who doesn’t want to save a few bucks, especially on entertainment.
