We received a copy of the Dinosaur Train Mesozoic Math Adventures to try out and review. I think that this was a strong showing from PBS kids for math skills for pre-schoolers. The app is rated 4+ and was perfect for Eva who is five. She took to the app naturally. First she tried out the game, Don’s Collection. This game has three levels and shows kids a bar graph where Don asks kids questions about his collection. Kids can compare the columns filled with items in Don’s collection to pick the correct answer. Kids learn to differentiate between greater and less than. In level one there are only two columns and the comparison is fairly easy. At level two another column is added and the difficulty increases a bit. At level three there are four columns and kids make observations and start working on simple ratios. As your child completes each level they unlock the next one. App Review: Disney Classics: Dumbo
Disney is continuing to release their classic stories as apps for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The latest is Dumbo. In the app you follow the baby elephant as he overcomes adversity and learns to believe in himself and that he can fly. Dumbo was one of my favorite movies as a kid. I even saw it at the Contemporary Resort at Walt Disney World when I stayed there with my grandparents in 1984. There was a movie theater in the arcade room in the basement with free movies.
