HASCON 2017 Day One Recap and Transformers Reveals

Stan Bush
Photo-A-Day #4532

So, tonight was the Stan Bush concert at Hascon. It was part of a special VIP ticket that I couldn’t afford and so I wouldn’t have been able to go if I had been there, but I am still missing not being at the show today in the first place. So I wore this shirt today.

I really wish that I had taken the weekend off to really be able to do HASCON all three days. Being there on Day 1 and seeing everything was cool. Then I get home add see all that I missed and know that I have a pass that will let me go back but being unable to go because I have to sleep because of work is frustrating. I am seeing more reveals and more cool things. People got to meet celebrities and more. I didn’t take nearly enough photos. I took a lot of video, though. Here is my video that I left early to work on yesterday. Should’ve just stayed.

In the video below I show a bunch of the Transformers toys,
Marvel, Nerf and My Little Pony. I even got to meet and Interview John Warden the Design Manager for Transformers! He was very cool to talk with. I also ran into Amy Pontes of Lite Rock 105. We are old friends from years ago. So that was fun. IT is a long video but there are some cool things in it.

Below are some of the Transformers toys reveals that I saw live yesterday. These are all ones I would like to have in my collection, with the exception of Cloudburst. I was never into the Pretenders line. But the Optimus Prime is incredible and I really want a set of Dinobots that become a combiner. Check them out below. Hascon

Ten years ago I attended Botcon 2007 in Providence, RI. While I was there I saw the first Transformers movie, twice in one night, met the owner of Siebertron.com and hung out with the guys from IDW. It was an amazing weekend. This September Hasbro has taken over an official convention just for Hasbro and their properties including Transformers. This is something that I want to take the kids to, I think they’d have so much fun. It is running from September 8-10 and sounds awesome. Here are the details we know right now.

Review – Legendfire Powershot Blaster

Legendfire Powershot Blaster
Photo-A-Day #4230

Prime Time Toys sent me their Legendfire Powershot Blaster to review. What follows is my honest review of the toy blaster. I have also made a video showing it in action.

The Legendfire Powershot Blaster has an interesting design and features. The blaster comes with 18 darts which can be loaded into two separate ammo cartridges or drums. There is also a clip (a tactical cartridge holder) so that you can carry the spare drum around with you while you are having your dart blaster fun. Being able to carry 18 pieces of ammo around with you and have it easy to switch in and out is a key feature to this blaster. The blaster works with Slamfire Power! What this means is that in order to deploy a dart you pull back on the slamfire mechanism and then to advance the drum you push forward. The trigger on the blaster is merely for show, it does not make the darts fire.

LEgendfire Powershot BlasterThe blaster claims that the darts can fire up to 80 feet. while I did not do a distance test, I just don’t have the right facilities here to do that, I did fire off a bunch and they were very fast and true. This is a long barrel blaster and part of Prime Time Toys Dart Zone Covert Ops series. It is for ages 8 and up and retails for $14.99. I found it to be a pretty decent blaster. One drum worked a lot better than the other but I couldn’t spot the differences to see why. I was able to power through deploying 9 darts really quickly and then change my drum very quickly as well. The Legendfire would be a decent blaster to have in your arsenal when you are having a blaster fight with friends.

Review: Nerf Zombie Strike SlingFire

Carrying the SlingFire

Back when I was at Toy Fair I got to spend some time with the great Nerf toys. My favorite one of the bunch was the Zombie Strike SlingFire. When we were planning Eva’s Birthday Party I asked if I could get a few Nerf items to make the party extra special. We received the SlingFire and the Nerf Rebelle Rapid Red. Opinions of the toys are 100% my own.

The SlingFire is an excellent Nerf dart blaster. It looks great and has some fun features. My favorite feature is the way you can quickly load it. You can flick the blaster forward and back for one handed loading. I immediately thought of the movie Terminator 2 where the T-800 (Ahnold) is riding the Harley along the streets of LA and then spots John Conner. He’s riding along and there are locked chain link gates. The T-800 loads his shotgun in the most incredible way and blasts the locks off the gates. I was so tempted to hop on a BMX bike and re-create that with the SlingFire. Continue reading Review: Nerf Zombie Strike SlingFire

Rocket Mask and Star-Lord’s Quad Blaster

We received a large box of Guardians of the Galaxy toys from Hasbro to play with and Review. Opinions are 100% my own.

The Star-Lord Quad Blaster and Rocket Raccoon mask were two of the best items in our giant box of cool Guardians of the Galaxy toys. More about each toy below. Continue reading Rocket Mask and Star-Lord’s Quad Blaster

Review: NERF Super Soaker Tri Strike Crossbow

Dad is impressed with the NERF Super Soaker Tri Strike Crossbow

We received a Nerf Super Soaker Tri Strike Crossbow to play with and review. Opinions of our experience are 100% our own.

On Father’s Day I wanted a Water Blaster/Balloon fight with Allison and the kids. What I got was just that plus my dad getting in on the action. Dad went right for the Tri Strike Crossbow and he and Eva squared off. She had the Super Soaker Hydro Storm which was a motorized blaster that I bought. I took my camera and captured them with continuous firing of the camera then uploaded the photos to Google where they were made into the animated image below. There were big smiles on both Dad’s and Eva’s faces.

Preparing for Monster Hunting

Photo-A-Day #3138

Tomorrow Eva and I are going to go Monster Hunting. We’ve been working on creating monsters for the past few month for this event. I’ve gotten a bunch of blasters and dart guns for years and figured that we could come up with some way to use them together.

The house is under a sickness this weekend. The kids aren’t feeling great. I’m home sick today and Allison hasn’t been feeling well, either. We shared a family movie and somehow all managed to remain awake until it was actually time for bed. Allison made a great Italian Wedding soup which was just what we needed.

Onward! To Victory!

Photo-A-Day #3090

Andrew is following Eva’s lead and taking the Nerf Swords and Battle Axes that we have to ask me to duel with him. This was one of the rare images I caught with him not holding the sword by the blade. He loves holding it and running around. He cracks me up when he plays outside because he gets into everything and he just has fun playing.

There is a big difference between how Andrew plays and how Eva plays. With Eva she has to micro manage everything about the play and with Andrew he just goes for it and switches interests on a dime. I know that he is younger and that is to be expected but I feel like Eva was always into planning out the next thing to do and being in charge of the play. She doesn’t just go with the flow of things like Andrew does. It is fun watching both of them though and playing with them as well.

Ming the Monsterous

Photo-A-Day #3080

We are continuing to create monsters for our massive back yard monster hunt. I’ve been working with Eva on this project for an article for the Cooper and Kid blog where I write on the topic of Play. I’ve gotten a ton of toy blasters that are nerf or nerf-like over the past few years and so we are going to pool them all together and hunt the monsters that we create. I posted this one to Facebook and someone said that it looked like Ming the Merciless from Flash Gordon. so I named him Ming the Monsterous.

Our Little Heartbreaker Rebelle

Photo-A-Day #3076

Nerf has this new line of dart blasters and accessories aimed at girls. The line is called Rebelle and we were sent a Heartbreaker Bow to try out and review. We’ll be using it in an upcoming project that we’ve been working on for Cooper and Kid.

Eva was thrilled to get this toy and couldn’t wait for us to do the project so she had me open it up today. The first time I tried this out the dart barely went anywhere but then I read the instructions I was able to get the dart to shoot well over the fence and across the driveway from the back yard. Eva was able to do so as well.

The Heartbreaker bow has a bunch of features to it. There is a clip that can attach to it that holds 5 darts. There are other items that can be attached to the toys in the Rebelle line. There are crossbows, bow and arrow, and multiple blasters. The darts are all decorated and there is even a clip on accessory that lets you attach an iPhone or iPod Touch to play a special game with friends. I like the line and so does Eva. Can’t wait to put it to the test when we finally get all of our Monsters created.

There are quite a few games to play at the Nerf Rebelle site as well. There you can learn more about the line and play the fun games.
