Family Staycation and an Unscheduled Polar Plunge

At The Cape
Photo-A-Day #4026

“Dad, This is the BEST car that you have ever reviewed!” Well, that pretty much sums up the experience the kids have been having with the Kia Sedona that we drove to the Cape today. I have the car for the week and we’re taking it on a few adventures on the Cape. Our drive down was good, Eva was quiet because she watched The LEGO Movie on the ride. Andrew was talking the whole time because he isn’t such a fan of the movie. When he doesn’t like a movie or a show he can be the biggest pest. It was something that was pretty frustrating. Then we arrived at the house and somehow the wind must have closed the door in such a way that the hock lock on the screen door got tripped and we had to figure out how to pop that lock open.

We had a great lunch at DJ’s Famous Wings. Allison and I split a rack of ribs and some wings while Eva had wings and Andrew a hot dog. They make some incredible wings there. They are so crispy and tasty. They also make hand cut curly fries and those are beyond amazing.

After lunch it was a trip to Walmart to get a few things including a few kites. I got a TMNT triangle shaped one, Eva got a beautiful sea turtle one and Andrew a Sponge Bob inflatable one. Skip the inflatables, they are terrible. The triangle shaped ones are still the best and easiest to fly. Although, the wind wasn’t that great, too much for my quad copter and not enough for a full kite fly.

While at the beach Andrew decided to walk into the water. First he was just in to his ankles and then got his knees and pants wet. Then he decided to flop into the water, jacket and all. It he wasn’t in too deep but it was too far out for him to go. In the moment it was kind of funny to me, but after the fact I realized just how scary it could have been. That kid needs a little more fear, he’s such a daredevil. Allison took him home to wash up and warm up. She also gave him a very long talking to about smart decisions and water.

After that we started working on a 1,000 piece puzzle of comic book covers. We’re still working on that.

Kids and stories. These go together so perfectly. Kids love to tell stories and they do so naturally. So, it is a perfect fit to have a game that is all about storytelling. We received a copy of ‘Tall Tales: The Game of Infinite Storytelling’ to play with and review. When I initially showed this game to Eva and Andrew they were so excited to get it out and play. We played one night and they loved it. Andrew loved it so much that the next morning he went downstairs and moved the folding chairs into the living room to set up the game for us to play again, he’s four. The game is for ages 4 to 99 and Andrew is the perfect age to get into this. While he doesn’t exactly play by the rules he is often entertaining.
