Making Christmas Decorations with Andrew

Painting a Snowman

Ah Fridays. To most of the working work Friday means freedom from the grind. The start of the weekend and all that it promises, that small respite between work weeks. Time to be with family and to work on projects around the house. For me it means a 24 hour period of no sleep. The first 12 hours are spent caring for and entertaining Andrew, all the while knowing that I will have another 12 plus hours of work ahead. I’m really not a fan of people posting the obligatory, “Thank God it’s Friday” posts on Facebook. I’m more like, “Oh God, it’s Friday, again!”

Despite my feelings about Friday I do enjoy that I have time to spend with Andrew. Today he painting a wooden snowman that we had in the basement. I’m not exactly sure where this particular project came from but after Christmas I tend to head to Target to pick up all sorts of activities that the kids can do for Christmas and leading up to Christmas. The sales turn out great and I can usually get them some fun things. Then we run out of any time to do any of it.

Schooled in Rush Hour Shift

Rush Hour Shift with the kids

A while ago we received the game Rush Hour Shift. The kids and I play from time to time. Andrew has started really enjoying playing board games but he is very competitive and gets upset when he loses. We’re working on how he can be a gracious loser and also gracious winner. We played Rush Hour Shift this morning. When we play together now we keep our cards down so everyone can see. I help the kids with their strategy a little and I make it more teachable than a competition, as much as I can. The kids won the first game and I won the second. Then they beat me at the end. I liked how they worked together in the game. I had to give them some instruction but for the most part they beat me on their own. I’m very proud of that.
