We were sent an advanced copy of the co-op card game 5-Minute Dungeon for free to play with and review. Opinions of the game are 100% our own. That being said, this was one of the best family games I have ever played. It is fast, fun and funny.
The kids and I played the game together and they absolutely loved it. They wanted to keep playing even after we played a bunch of games. They did not want to go to bed, they wanted to keep playing.
This game is being launched on Kickstarter on November 1st and can be obtained for as little as $15 if you can snag one of the 500 early bird sets. You can get both the collector’s edition and the basic edition for $50, too. I think this is going to be a huge seller and I hope it hits the stretch goals because there are cool thing coming from that! If you want more information check out http://5minutedungeon.com/. even though I got a free advanced copy I’ll certainly be backing the camapign.
You know I love it and why but what about the actual playing of the game? The game is for up to 5 players. Or, I guess, if you have two sets you can have 10 players. I’m not sure if that is kosher, but what the heck, get two games and try playing with 10 people. It will be crazy. There are no turns in the game. Everyone is playing at ponce trying to get through all the doors to the Boss. Along the way you may run into mini-bosses, monsters, obstacles, people and events.
There are 10 heroes and each have their own special moves. Players can take on the role of a Paladin, Wizard, Thief, Ninja and more. You beat door cards, mini bosses and bosses by playing cards that have certain symbols. They are Scroll, Jump, Sword, Shield and Arrow. I don’t know what we called all of them in our video below, but they were what we thought as we played. Play is super fast, I mean super fast. You have 5 minutes to get to the Boss and defeat that boss. To keep time there is a timer app and it is funny as well as useful.
Gameplay is so fast that I haven’t even had time to see all the cute and funny cards that you need to defeat. There is a Wizard of Ill Repute, a Cactus that Needs a Hug, 7 Unhelpful Dwarfs and UUGGHH…Boots. Those and so many more are being drawn from pop culture and the plethora of fantasy and sci-fi shows on television today. You’ve got to try this game!
Here is an example of how to play the game. The sound may be off a tiny bit at times. I worked as hard as I could to fix the sound so it was in sync. We played a whole bunch today, Andrew and I played 3 rounds at lunch before I had to start working again. The whole family played two advanced rounds tonight after dinner and it was full of fun and laughs. Round one is on this video.
