Christmas Lights are not only fun and enjoyable for your own family but also for the people around you. In our old neighborhood there were many homes that decorated for Christmas. There was one house that had a full scene of Charlie Brown’s Christmas. It was always nice to go and see that house each Christmas and if it had snowed, then all the better. I was happy to be able to get some lights for decorating at Sears this Christmas. I thought that we were not going to do any decorating this year because we had just moved and so had no lights or anything else to decorate our home.
I found that putting up the lights was an interesting endeavor this year. For one thing, we had no power outside in the front of the house. The only outlet available was on the back porch. So, my Dad installed two outlets on the house, one on the side and one in the front. I just assumed that I had outlets outside the house because the former owner was an electrician. But, I should not have assumed that since the only places where there are an abundance of lights are in the weirdest spots like the garage and one corner of the basement. Why would there be outlets in practical places like outside for Christmas lights.
I also learned that I need to pay more attention to detail when I am hanging up the lights. On one end of the lights there is a male/female end and on the other a female end. A male end of the extension cord is plugged into the house outlet and it needs a male end of the Christmas lights to plug to the other end. Well, I guess I plugged the wrong ends together when I strung the lights because I ended up with a Female/Female situation and that wasn’t going to work. So, I headed back up the ladder and flipped a strand around which wasn’t too bad since I had those great clips on the gutter to work with.
With the light strands finally fixed and the outlets installed it was time to light things up. I hadn’t checked any of the strands before I put them up so I held my breath that they would go on right away. Luckily, they did and we could start enjoying our house with Christmas decorations on it.
The display this year is pretty modest but we will build upon it for future years to come. I even picked up some timers and a power station that stakes into the ground and supplies power to six additional plugs. After Christmas I’ll get more lights for next year as they will be going on some pretty good sales. We appreciate that we were able to purchase some Christmas lights and brighten up our home for the Holidays. We’re also really grateful to my Dad for installing outlets so that we had power to light up the lights.

Looks great! We need an outdoor outlet to put lights up for next year. Enjoy the holidays!
