Some New Tech
Photo-A-Day #1399

No, I haven’t gone crazy spending some stimulus package. Am I the only one sick of seeing those scam ads on Facebook? No, I watched OfficeDepot as the price fell on the Wacom Bamboo Tablet and the 4 port USB hub. The Samsung camera was a giveaway from a generous sponsor at IZEAFest 2008. And generous Swag is reason #9 for going to IZEAFest 2009. The 1 TB FreeAgent XTreme external hard drive from Seagate. I won that from a contest on The Dirty Shirt. Today I finally put these items to use.

I hooked up the hard drive and set it to backup the video and photo folders of our other external hard drive. I also made sure that that particular drive was up to date with my travel external hard drive. And if that is not anal enough I have another external hard drive of just Eva photos. The 1 TB FreeAgent XTreme will go into our fireproof lockbox. I will also find another safe place for the Eva hard drive and do my backups once each month. So now I have to set up a reminder message to myself for once a month backups.

Speaking of getting things done, today I finally picked up my glasses, the ones that were $200 more than the Zenni Optical ones that I am wearing right now. The company called me wondering why I hadn’t picked up the glasses in 4 months. Oops.

So I grabbed them, then stopped over at my Gym to cancel my membership. Gyms are such scams. I know that I paid 1st and last months fees but they said I have to bring my original paperwork back to confirm that. Really, they didn’t have that on file somewhere? I find that hard to beleive so tomorrow I bring them my paperwork.

Oh and I also got my car inspected. My plan to have it inspected at least one day into the new month after the last one expired is working. I figure if I do it for 12 months I get one year free. That is probably not what is happening but I like to think it is.

And I love On Demand by Comcast because they had Wolverine and the X-Men was on Nickelodeon for free. I also found Marvel on Twitter. I love that they are using Twitter. I’m going to find some of the other media sources that I love as well. Hey great, news IDW publishing is on twitter too! They are the people who do the Angel, Transformers and G.I. Joe comic books.

My Comic Book Collection…

Back in 1994 when I was in the later half of my Sophomore year of college I got back into comic books. I say back into because when I was about 10 years old I bought every Transformers comic book that ever came out. One day in 1994 I was watching the home shopping network and they were selling a set of #1s from a company called Image. The comics looked amazing and I had been out of comics for a while so I decided to buy them. It was a whim, I know, but because of that purchase I then got into some pretty cool comic series. I followed WildC.A.T.S., Stormwatch, The Savage Dragon, Gen 13, WetWorks and a bunch of other comics. My main focus was on the one put out first by Image and then by WildStorm. I haven’t stopped collecting since. Now it is 2008 and I am collecting Transformers comics again as well as G.I. Joe (I collected that too when I was 10yrs old but not as religiously as the Transformers).

My collection has gotten pretty darn big and I have toyed with the idea of selling part of it from time to time. I want to find a decent Comic Price Guide in order to make it worth my while to start selling them. I found iTaggit which is much more than a price guide. This is a place where I could upload images of all my comics (Which would take the better part of a month going non stop wit the scanner and camera). I could also store information about each item as well as use the research tools to find the best valuation for each item. Itaggit not only works for comic books but for anything that is a collectible, and so with my collection of transformers, Star Wars Lego sets and Cars, die cast cars I could upload everything for posterity as well as a way to potentially sell my items. Who knows, maybe start this as a rainy day project.
