New PBS Series – Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood Debuts September 3, 2012

A couple of months ago I was in Denver for the PBS Annual meeting. It was a great time and I got to meet some wonderful people and learn about some fun things coming from PBS. One of those things is a new show called Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. This is a show for preschoolers. The show is adorable. I think that Eva will enjoy it for a while before she is too old for it and then when Andrew is older he will enjoy it too. Here is more info on the show and when it will debut.

DANIEL TIGER’S NEIGHBORHOOD DEBUTS MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, ON PBS KIDS

New Animated Series Produced by The Fred Rogers Company

Television Critics Association Press Tour, Los Angeles, CA, July 22, 2012 – A new generation of preschool “neighbors” will get to experience the Neighborhood of Make-Believe when Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood premieres this fall on PBS KIDS. The first TV series inspired by the iconic, award-winning Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood from The Fred Rogers Company stars 4-year-old Daniel Tiger, son of the original program’s Daniel Striped Tiger, who invites young viewers into his world, giving them a kid’s-eye view of his life. As they closely follow and share Daniel’s everyday adventures, preschoolers ages 2-4 and their families learn fun and practical strategies and skills necessary for growing and learning. Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood premieres Monday, September 3, on PBS KIDS with a special one-hour block of two back-to-back episodes. The series will air daily following its Labor Day premiere (check local listings). Continue reading New PBS Series – Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood Debuts September 3, 2012

Eva and I were given a copy of the latest PBS Kids iPad app. This is the first app from the PBS series Arthur. The app is a side scrolling gamer where Arthur’s sister D.W. rides a magical unicorn across the screen and jumps to eat healthy foods that are all the colors of the rainbow. By consistently catching the healthy food the unicorn keeps her energy up. But if you run into the unhealthy sugary or salty snacks your unicorn ends up losing energy.

The app is pretty simple, good for the age range of 4-6 year olds. Eva had fun playing it. She is always asking us if this food is healthy or that food is healthy in her everyday life. She can see in this game what foods are healthy and which are not. Then she is telling us what is healthy and what is not. She picked up the game play quickly too. She was able to make the unicorn jump and super jump without issue. She made her way through a number of lower levels and as she continues to play she gets better and better at it.
