The Kids Unboxing: Balance Beans from ThinkFun

Andrew and the Balance Beans Box

ThinkFun sent us a copy of the new game, Balance Beans for free for us to play with and give an honest review. This is what we thought and our honest opinion of the game.

As with all ThinkFun games that we have ever reviewed, I was impressed with the high quality of the game itself. The game pieces are bright and colorful with funny little faces on the beans. The game is also very simple on the outset but as you play the different cards it goes from simple to more complicated. The game is great for teaching children math concepts like multiplication and algebra.

The game is for ages 5 and up but you can start younger. Andrew has shown interest in math and he did well playing this game. The more abstract concepts went over his head but he used trial and error to find the solution. Once he found it I explained why it worked.

Contemplating the Proper Balance

We made a little video of the game to show how it works and to introduce this game which is available for pre-order and will be released in early July.

Review: Back Spin from ThinkFun

Back Spin from ThinkFun
I recevied a copy of the new ThinkFun game, Back Spin, to play with and review. Opinions are 100% my own.

I’m a big fan of the ThinkFun library of games. We have quite a few of their brain teasing puzzles. Back Spin is a simple concept. It is a disc that rotates and it is covered with 35 balls of 9 colors. There is one empty space. First you mess up the balls so that the colors are mixed. You then rotate the discs and pass one ball from back to front until all the balls are back with their original colors. The concept is simple but trying to get the right colors back in their place can be a real challenge. Luckily ThinkFun games are about challenge and not impossibility. The game can be solved and is for ages 8 and up. It is also nice and flat and self contained so it is great for car trips. Here is my complete video review of the game.
