Some New Tech

Some New Tech
Photo-A-Day #1399

No, I haven’t gone crazy spending some stimulus package. Am I the only one sick of seeing those scam ads on Facebook? No, I watched OfficeDepot as the price fell on the Wacom Bamboo Tablet and the 4 port USB hub. The Samsung camera was a giveaway from a generous sponsor at IZEAFest 2008. And generous Swag is reason #9 for going to IZEAFest 2009. The 1 TB FreeAgent XTreme external hard drive from Seagate. I won that from a contest on The Dirty Shirt. Today I finally put these items to use.

I hooked up the hard drive and set it to backup the video and photo folders of our other external hard drive. I also made sure that that particular drive was up to date with my travel external hard drive. And if that is not anal enough I have another external hard drive of just Eva photos. The 1 TB FreeAgent XTreme will go into our fireproof lockbox. I will also find another safe place for the Eva hard drive and do my backups once each month. So now I have to set up a reminder message to myself for once a month backups.

Speaking of getting things done, today I finally picked up my glasses, the ones that were $200 more than the Zenni Optical ones that I am wearing right now. The company called me wondering why I hadn’t picked up the glasses in 4 months. Oops.

So I grabbed them, then stopped over at my Gym to cancel my membership. Gyms are such scams. I know that I paid 1st and last months fees but they said I have to bring my original paperwork back to confirm that. Really, they didn’t have that on file somewhere? I find that hard to beleive so tomorrow I bring them my paperwork.

Oh and I also got my car inspected. My plan to have it inspected at least one day into the new month after the last one expired is working. I figure if I do it for 12 months I get one year free. That is probably not what is happening but I like to think it is.

And I love On Demand by Comcast because they had Wolverine and the X-Men was on Nickelodeon for free. I also found Marvel on Twitter. I love that they are using Twitter. I’m going to find some of the other media sources that I love as well. Hey great, news IDW publishing is on twitter too! They are the people who do the Angel, Transformers and G.I. Joe comic books.

Speed of Thought

The Comedy Cafe

Tonight I finally did something that I’ve been meaning to do for a while now. I finally went down to the Speed of Thought Players – Comedy Cafe. The reason that I’ve been wanting to do this is two-fold. I love comedy and want to be able to see comedy done in a venue that is close to home. This venue is a walk down the street from me. The second reason was that I am looking for a Tweetup place for local bloggers to go.

I went in and looked around the place as I’d driven by but never stopped before. Inside I met Tina, Mike and Ken. We talked about the venue, what they did there each week and the schedule of events. I then pitched them the idea of having a blogger night at the venue. I really want to start connecting with local bloggers and taking this whole social networking experience off the computer and into a location. They seemed interested in the idea and I began to talk to them more about social networking and how Twitter could be a big part of their business as well as Facebook and other means. They are on MySpace so that is a start.

The venue is very cool because it was decorated with recycled materials. They even have a player piano and a good stage area. Each week they have a workshop on improv that anyone can go to on Tuesdays, Thursday’s is open mic, Fridays is a “Who’s Line is it Anyway?” type event and Saturday is stand-up night. I think we might be able to work out a blogger night on one night during the week. The venue has what we would need for a blogger tweetup like food, beer, plenty of free parking and free wi-fi, I think those are some great options for a blogger tweetup. Also I asked about video taping, taking pictures as well and those are all fine too.

One thing that really stood out to me was that they used Moo cards and embedded them in the bar which in and of itself is cool but you have to see the artwork on the bar. I took some photos.

There are moo cards in the bar

And then I got some roasted Jalapenos and chips and nacho cheese. They were waiting for me to bite into a wicked hot one but they were all pretty mild. No heat but they were tasty.

I think I’m going to go and check out the improv night tomorrow to see what it is all about.
